[Image-3]By invitation from Queen Elizabeth II, the current sovereign of Great Britain (and one of the successors in law to the unfortunate King John who, cornered by his nobles, was compelled to sign the Magna Carta in 1215, giving them unprecedented rights), three Tennesseans have been invited to Runnymede, England, for a ceremony commemorating the 800th anniversary of that document on Monday.
Two of the the three Tennessee invitees are Shelby Countians —State Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) and Memphis attorney Al Harvey.
Norris was invited under the auspices of his being the immediate past national chairman of the Council of State Governments. The other Tennesseans, representing the American Bar Association, are Harvey and Marshall County General Sessions Judge Lee Bussart Bowles.
