The National Civil Rights Museum is holding its annual candelight vigil, commemorating the 39th anniversary of his assassination at the site, tonight from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
The event includes singing, a benediction, as well as a changing of the wreath, that marks the spot where King was standing when he was shot on the motel’s balcony on April 4, 1968.
Another King tribute and awards ceremony will be held Thursday night at 7 p.m. at The Orpheum. The event is free and open to the public.
This event, called “Candle on the Bluff,” is presented by New Olivet church and the Memphis Alumni Chapter of Morehouse College. Awards are given to those who’ve kept King’s dream alive through work in their community. This year’s award recipients include Sheby County mayor A C Wharton, Judge Russell B. Sugarmon, and Dr. Kenneth T. Whalum Jr.
