Music Video Monday: “Barbershop” by Amber Rae Dunn

Music Video Monday gets a haircut.

If you’re like me — and I know I am — your pandemic look has been pretty shaggy. That time is over! Once your vax kicks in, it’s time to get shorn by a pro again. Our hairdresser friends have been hurting, and they’re going to do a much better job than your Flowbee-wielding roommate.

Amber Rae Dunn is a singer from West Memphis, Arkansas, who is familiar to Memphis audiences from her band The Mulberries, and her stint hosting open mic night at Earnestine & Hazel’s. “Barbershop,” produced by Nashville’s Ben Smiley, is a tribute to the profession she grew up in. “The people, the stories, the simplicity of life, I’ve fallen in love with the business that captured my dad’s heart so many years ago. People tell their barbers everything. It’s a safe haven for relaxation, contemplation and gossip alike, so as a songwriter what’s not to love?”

Dunn’s friends, family, and band appear in this video for “Barbershop,” which was shot in her father’s shop in West Memphis by director Yubu Kazungu. Look for Dunn’s full album this fall, but until then, come get your head cut.
