New Media Venture to be Unveiled Monday

The curtain on Memphis’ new media venture will be thrown back Monday afternoon.

Rumblings of a new media outlet began in May and became realized with the departure of high-profile talent at The Commercial Appeal. Within a week in mid-May, sports columnist Geoff Calkins, food and dining writer Jennifer Biggs, and editor and columnist Chris Herrington all announced they were leaving the daily newspaper.

Since then, others have left The CA and other papers for the new venture (or what has become commonly called “the new thing” by newspaper folk). However, none of them were able to publicly provide much information about their new homes.

A 2 p.m. news conference Monday will likely cure some of the curiosity around the new media venture.

“You may have likely heard about a new media venture launching this year in Memphis,” read an invitation to the event. “You may have some questions; this event will provide answers.”

We’ll be there and report as soon as we can.
