A Memphis police officer has been indicted on charges that allege he sexually assaulted a woman Downtown in November.
Eric Lee, 46, was indicted Friday on aggravated sexual battery, official misconduct, and official oppression. He is being held on $150,000 bond.
According to Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich, the incident occurred on November 10 near South Main and Peabody Place. A statement from Weirich’s office did not give details of the incident but noted the alleged victim was a 38-year-old, Hispanic woman who was sitting in her car waiting for her husband to get off work from a nearby restaurant.
Lee has been a police officer since February 2009. He was relieved of duty with pay on September 3, nearly 10 months after the alleged events occurred.
The case is being handled by the D.A.’s Special Victims Unit.
Lee is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.
