Back in 1977, Memphian Stephen Burns and three local buddies followed Big Star into Ardent Studios and came out with a minor power-pop punk classic: ‘Wanna Meet the Scruffs?’. Nearly 30 years later, Burns returned to Ardent with his current incarnation of the band, where he’s backed by a trio of Scottish fans, for a record that veers more into Beatlesque pop, rootsy classic rock, and gentle psychedelia, but it still sounds like the Scruffs.
