Beartraps.com has an extensive listing of speed traps on highways across the country. Just pick the highway and state where you’ll be traveling and you can find out — to the exact exit — where you need to be the most careful about watching your speed.
For instance, you might want to be extra careful near mile marker 25 on I-40 near Arlington, because this is no ordinary bear radar.
“This is Drug Interdiction radar,” says the site. “If you happen to look like somebody who might be hauling dope, you’ll be stopped and held while the doggie takes a sniff. As you are coming into Shelby County west bound the bears are just over the hill, and are really watching the east-bound traffic, hoping they can catch a drug runner/speeder.”
The site explains that “bears” (aka state troopers) are creatures of habit but, as far as we’re concerned, once you find a good fishing hole, why change?
