Raw Girls Launches Food Truck

Raw Girls Memphis, Amy and Hannah Pickle’s raw meal service, recently expanded with a food truck.

The truck’s debut was last Friday, and Bianca and I were there.

The menu is small by design. There’s one breakfast item, four lunch items, and a dessert. There are also five cold-press juices offered.

We were told that the Raw Girls Famous Taco Salad (top right; $7.99) is their most popular item, and I can believe it. The “meat” is ground walnuts with taco spices. It comes with a great guacamole, and a mix of tomatoes and onions. It wasn’t a big salad by any means, but it was satisfying.

Bianca ordered the Organic Black Bean Pasta ($7.99). I generally not a fan of non-traditional pastas (corn, rice, etc.). They’re fine when hot but sticky or mushy and odd-tasting when room temp or cold. These black bean noodles were an eye-opener — springy and substantial. The pasta comes with hemp seeds, hemp oil chili topped with corn, tomatoes, jalepeno, red onion, lime, and a cilantro pesto.

The Pickles gave us each a juice to try (all $9). I got the Turmeric/Lemon Master Cleanse, an ice-cold lemonade-y take on the cleanse. It was excellent. Bianca got the Green Love Bomb, which is apples, fennel, spinach, kale, celery, ginger, lemon, and cucumber. This juice had an interesting sweet/savory thing going on and could easily be an afternoon snack.

The Raw Girls plan to have their truck at 5200 Poplar near Yates, in the Hollywood Feed parking lot, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. You should go check them out.
