U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn
U.S. Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), one of the longest serving African Americans in Congress and the third most senior Democrat in the House of Representatives, will be at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis Friday night for a 6 p.m. discussion and signing of his autobiographical book, Blessed Experience.
Rep. Clyburn achieved a great deal of national attention in 2008 from his public chastisement of former President Bill Clinton for comparing then presidential candidate Barack Obama’s early primary triumphs in 2008 to the token successes of Jesse Jackson in previous years.
That was regarded as one of the turning points of the Democratic primary campaign.
Rep. Clyburn has been one of the foremost advocates of increased health care programs and stepped-up aid to public education. He now serves as assistant minority leader in the House.
