Brian C. Miller Richard
The Mississippi-born, Louisiana-bred guitarist Sonny Landreth is something of a musician’s musician, best known for his distinctive, inventive slide playing. The versatile performer has had a multi-decade career as a solo performer, sideman (for zydeco great Clifton Chenier, among others), and session player (for John Hiatt, among others). When following his own muse, Landreth is a bluesman at heart, his playing rooted in country blues icons such as Robert Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt and his songwriting either tapping into the heartsick blues verities or evoking the landscape of the Delta South. Sonny Landreth plays the Levitt Shell on Friday, July 5th. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Free.
