Sound Advice: Mars Hall at the Hi-Tone

Mars Hall

There’s an early show at the Hi-Tone at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Mars Hall is the work of Marshall Sanchez, a child of New Orleans and a stepchild to Memphis-based musician Tim Prudhomme. Sanchez grew up in Louisiana and moved to New York, returning to New Orleans after Katrina. His mother and stepfather relocated to Memphis and Sanchez followed. Since his arrival a few years ago, he’s assembled an enviable band. Fields and Mike Falcone  play bass and guitar. Fields played in the Compulsive Gamblers and remains a barometer of cool with her latest group, Sibella. Dirk Kitterlin played a host of instruments, and Shawn Zorn (Amy LaVere, Ryan Peel) plays drums. If you keep up, you know that’s quite a group. Mars Hall’s latest collection of recordings is Rarities & Bedsides, which was produced by former Easley-McCain wunderkind, Stuart Sikes.
