Officials with the South Main neighborhood debuted a raft of new ideas Thursday to further define the historic arts district for visitors as it continues to develop into a major hub for shopping and entertainment.

A new visitors guide titled “So The Legend Goes” will point guests to 55 different points of interest in the neighborhood. The guide also features a “Little Known Legends” section that tells of a time “Machine Gun” Kelly had a shootout at the Green Beetle and that the Pearl’s Oyster House location was at one time the home of Whistle Brand soft drinks.

Banners were hung up and down Main Street in the district Thursday. All of them carry the new South Main logo designed by the Memphis creative firm, Farmhouse.

FInally, officials debuted a virtual walking tour of the neighborhood Thursday. Visitors will be able to scan QR codes posted on buildings throughout South Main and get information about their histories and architecture. The tour is hoped to help visitors have a better interaction with the neighborhood as they navigate it on foot from The Orpheum Theater to Central Station.
