The South Memphis Farmers Market, at South Parkway and Mississippi Blvd., marks its one-year anniversary with the announcement of expansion plans.
The market has received a grant from the Plough Foundation to create a permanent facility. The old fish market on the site will be renovated and plans include an outdoor pavilion for vendors and an indoor space for a kitchen for cooking classes and a green grocer to be open throughout the week.
Today’s events include a ceremony at 1 p.m. and, from 1 to 6 p.m., a design charrette led by the Memphis Regional Design Center to gather ideas for the new facility.
