For a short piece titled “S.A.T.’s for Rockers,” Entertaiment Weekly writer Evan Serpick contacted the famously frank frontman for Memphis metalband Saliva. Given the fickle nature of the music industry, the story’s subhead, “Josey Scott, you have 15 minutes,” seems eeerily prophetic,but the article may well go down in journalism history as the most inane interview of all time. Some sample questions and answers:
EW: “Fill in the blank. Saliva is to rap-metal as John Coltrane is to _______. [A} deep-trance techno, [B] a turkey sandwich, [C] jazz.”
Scott, claiming that Saliva’s fusion of rap and metal was not “rap-metal,” chose B: a turkey sandwich.
ALSO:
EW: “I rocked so hard I almost _____ my ______. (A) Wet my pants; (B) Did my homework; (C) Lost my lunch.”
Scott, to his good credit, answered “none of the above,” noting, “Those are all f—in’ awful, dude!”
AND FINALLY. . .
EW: “What do Rick Dees, Three 6 Mafia, and Saliva all have in common?”
Scott answered correctly “Memphis,” though the more appropriate response might have been, “Dude, why are you f—n’ wasting my time?”
