State Parks to be Revamped

The Tennessee State Park Conservancy wants to enhance visitors’ park experiences across the state in education, health, and other designated areas.

Modeled after the Nation Park Foundation, the Tennessee State Park Conservancy, a recently-formed non-profit partner of Tennessee State Parks within the Tennessee Department of Environmental and Conservation (TDEC), was created to allow groups and individuals to support the state parks system as a whole.

“This supporting organization to TDEC will make the park experience better for visitors through additional historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities,” TDEC Deputy Commissioner of Parks and Conservation, Brock Hill said. “Individuals and corporate partners can directly contribute to the sustainability and longevity of our statewide park system.”

The funds raised, available to the 56 state parks on a grant-based system, will go toward educational programs such as field trips and outdoor classrooms, health initiatives such as playgrounds, as well as, special park projects, like museum exhibits.

There will be a kick-off event in Nashville on April 20. See the event site for more information.
