Cherry Hula Burlesque Show

Spring may have just arrived, but it’s already summer at Cherry — the monthly party for lesbians and their friends.

This month’s installment — Hula Burlesque — will feature performances by burlesque, belly, and drag performers Kitty Wompas, Fatima Fox, Will Ryder, and Delilah, and as always, it’s hosted by comedian Julie Wheeler. Cherry will be held at 5 Spot behind Earnestine & Hazel’s on Saturday, March 26th, and shows begin at 9:30 and 11 p.m. 

There will be a limbo contest for VIP tickets to the next month’s party. General admission is $10, and VIP tickets are $20.

Cherry Does Bowie

The monthly Cherry party, billed as a place for “freaks, queers, Burlesque dancers, and everyone else,” will pay homage to the late David Bowie with its “Bowie Burlesque” show on Saturday, January 30th at Earnestine & Hazel’s.

Requiemma, Will Ryder, Lady Doo Moi, and Kitty Wompas will perform their “interpretations of Bowie’s genius,” according to Cherry host/singer/comedian Julie Wheeler.

The Cherry party is typically in the 5 Spot behind Earnestine & Hazel’s, but the show may be moved to the front room of the bar due to a scheduling conflict with a dance party.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the shows are scheduled for 9:30 and 11 p.m. General admission is $10, and VIP (saved seat, signed Cherry poster) is $20.

New Year’s Burlesque Show

The monthly Cherry party — “a lezzie shindig,” as it’s billed — will host a post-New Year’s burlesque party on Saturday, January 2nd at the 5 Spot on South Main.

The show features performances by Kitty Wompas, Fatima Fox, Will Ryder, and Spyke Styletto, and it’s hosted by comedian Julie Wheeler. DJ Leslie will provide tunes in between and after the shows. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and the burlesque shows start at 9:30 and 11 p.m. 

Admission is $10 for general admission or $20 for VIP, which includes a saved seat and a signed Cherry poster.

Cherry’s Third Anniversary Party!

For three years now, comedian Julie Wheeler has been hosting burlesque and variety shows for her monthly Cherry series.

On Saturday, July 25th, Cherry regulars (and newcomers) will celebrate the party’s anniversary with a film noir-themed burlesque and variety show at Earnestine & Hazel’s/The 5 Spot. There will be two burlesque shows throughout the night with performances by Requi Emma, LadyDoo Moi, Spyke Styletto, and Delilah (a.k.a. Deborah Nguyen). Singer-songwriter Lisa Michaels will perform in between the two shows. DJ Leslie Christopher will spin dance tunes at the end of the night.

The 5 Spot’s menu, featuring the cuisine of Chef Kelly English, will be available, and there’s a full bar.

General admission is $10 or VIP (saved seat and a signed poster) is $20.

Cherry’s “Love Or Lack Thereof” Burlesque Party

Whether you spent Valentine’s Day cuddling with your SO or cuddling a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, the monthly Cherry party for lesbians and their friends is offering a Valentine’s-themed do-over. And this time, everyone, single or not, will get to see some skin.

That’s because the monthly party features a burlesque show with Kitty Wompas, Requi Emma, Macc Onner, Spyke Styletto, Vivi Ven Detta, and Gypsy Magnolia. Catch the action at the 5 Spot inside Earnestine & Hazel’s on Saturday, February 28th. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and there are two burlesque shows — one at 9:30 p.m. and another 11 p.m. Admission is $10 for general admission and $20 for VIP.

The 5 Spot should have their liquor license by then, so drink specials are planned. For food, they’ll be offering Soulburgers, oysters on the half shell, Thai sandwiches, and BLT’s.

Cherry’s Hoochie Coochie Holiday Burlesque Review

Christmas will be over by the time the next Cherry party occurs on Saturday, December 27th, but the monthly “lezzie shindig” is promising to “save you from the holiday madness,” according to host Julie Wheeler.

As usual, there will be a burlesque show featuring Macc Onner, Kitty Wompas, LadyDoo Moi, Requi Emma, and Kissame Suga. And Wheeler will serve as the MC. The party is at Earnestine & Hazel’s, so those who want liquor are encouraged to BYOB. Beer and Soul Burgers will be for sale. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and the shows start at 9:30 and 11 p.m. Admission is $10 for general or $20 for VIP (comes with a saved seat by the stage and a signed Cherry poster.

Cherry Presents “Rocky Horror Burlesque & Drag Show”

It’s time for the Time Warp again. November’s monthly Cherry party, advertised as a party for lesbians and their friends, will have a Rocky Horror Picture Show theme.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 22nd at Earnestine & Hazel’s (531 S. Main), the party will feature a burlesque and drag show with Kitty Wompas, Bella Duballe, Macc Onner, Goldie Davenport, and others. Comedian and signer Julie Wheeler will play host, as always. There are two shows — one at 9:30 p.m. and another at 11 p.m.

Come dressed as a character from <i>Rocky Horror</i>. There will be a costume contest with prizes.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and the event is only open to guests ages 21 and up. Tickets are $10 general admission or $20 for VIP, which includes a saved seat near the stage and a signed poster.

Cherry’s “No Resolutions Ball & Burlesque Show”

Before you start making resolutions to swear off booze and spend your life in the gym, the monthly “Cherry” party is offering one more chance to party in 2013.

On Saturday, December 28th, the ”No Resolutions Ball & Burlesque Show” at Side Street’s Magnolia Room will feature a burlesque variety show with performances by Kissame Suga, Squeaky Fromage, Foxy Fairmont, Somerset O’Neil, the sword-wielding, belly-dancing MAE Oui, and the final Memphis performance of Fiona Nix.

After the show, DJ Dozer will spin some tunes on the dance floor. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30 p.m. The cover charge is $12.

Cherry Party Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

The monthly “Cherry” party series, billed as a “lezzie shindig,” is celebrating one year this weekend, and they’ll be doing so in a different bar than usual.

On Saturday, July 27th, Cherry’s anniversary party will be held at Side Street Grill on the redbar side. The party includes a birthday burlesque show starring Foxy Fairmont, Kissame Suga, Kitty Wompas, LadyDoo Moi, and Anne Tag-a-Knee. There will be music and dancing after the show.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and there’s a $10 cover charge.

Lesbian Burlesque Party

This month’s gay pride-themed installment of “Cherry,” a monthly party for lesbians and their friends, will feature the return of burlesque dancer Kitty Wompas.

Wompas, who performed at some earlier “Cherry” parties, has been performing in Florida lately, but she’s back in town. Joining her will be dancers Foxy Fairmont and Anne Tag-a-Knee. As always, host Julie Wheeler will be singing and providing the jokes.

They’ll be giving away one last $50 tattoo credit from Underground Art, and there will be drink specials.
