New Virus Cases Rise On Testing Push, Total Positive Rate Remains Low

New coronavirus cases in Shelby County rose by 92 from Wednesday to Thursday as 1,650 tests were given, which was 1,037 more tests given than Tuesday.

Wednesday’s testing put the day’s positivity rate at around 5.5 percent percent. Tuesday low new case count of 28 made a positivity rate of 4.4 percent. Health officials say this number needs to stay below 10 percent. So far, a total of 36,878 coronavirus tests have been given here. The death toll rose by six to 64.

New coronavirus cases in Shelby County rose by only 26 from Tuesday to Wednesday, the lowest new case count recorded in weeks. New tests fell, too, as only 613 were given Tuesday. (Monday’s test count was low, too, at 719.)

Tuesday’s testing put the day’s positivity rate at around 4 percent. Health officials say this number needs to stay below 10 percent. So far, a total of 35,228 coronavirus tests have been given here. The death toll rose by one to 58.

Shelby County added 81 new cases of COVID-19 from 2,403 reported Wednesday to 2,484 reported Thursday morning. One new death was recorded. The county death toll is now 47.

The spike in cases came after a testing blitz. The county reported 1,643 new tests were administered Wednesday, the highest amount of tests given yet in a single day here.
