“Leftist agitators disrupted the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter event hosting Kyle Rittenhouse last night at the University of Memphis,” reads a story from Turning Points USA the day after Rittenhouse was booed from the stage and chased away from campus by protestors.

MEMernet celebrity Allan Creasy asked Memphians on X and Facebook for their most Memphis insult for Rittenhouse. They didn’t disappoint.

“Kyle says mane but spells it main,” wrote Forrest Quay Roberts.

“Kyle Rittenhouse walked into the Rendezvous and ordered the shrimp,” wrote Jonathan Green.

“Kyle thinks Chili’s has the best ribs,” wrote Danny Bader. “He also eats ribs with a fork.”

“I 100 percent know his favorite Grizzly was Chandler Parsons,” wrote Henry A Wallace.

Candy Champ

“This kid eating an insane amount of cotton candy has been the best performance we’ve seen in five games in Memphis this weekend,” tweeted Jessica Benson, a Grind City Media host on the March Madness games played at FedExForum last weekend.

Glo and Joe

Memphis rapper GloRilla met President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House last week. In a brief Instagram selfie video with Biden, GloRilla says, “Yeah, Joe!” The president responded, “Not yeah, Joe. Yeah, you!”

Smackdown

WWE brought Smackdown to town last week and Memphis Memphises pretty hard where wrestling is concerned, especially when Dwayne The Rock Johnson is involved. Johnson’s in-character musical performance at the event poked fun at Ja Morant, according to CBS Sports.

“You’re simply an embarrassment, son,” Johnson sang of a rival. “Just like Ja Morant when he’s waving a gun (I love you Ja).”

Johnson also did an in-store event at the Wolfchase Target, where he talked about his new skin care products.

This is correct.

Peak Tulip

It’s “peak tulip” time at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens, reported Reddit user BandidoCoyote. The garden is free. So, hit it up if you need an extra shot of spring.

Sassy Stolen Song

Memphis troubadour Jeff Hulett turned out a gut-wrenching tune of loss and disappointment last month.

“Did you hear about Sassy girl?” he sings in a new song on Soundcloud. “The 250-pound statue of a neighbor in Cooper-Young.”

In one of the most Memphis things ever, Hulett’s song details the recent theft of Sassy, a beloved Sasquatch statue stolen in the neighborhood.

Tweet of the Week

“Happy Women’s Day to all the intelligent, beautiful, courageous, kind, and strong women out there,” MGLW Memphis, a parody account, posted to X last week. “And also Marsha Blackburn.”

That smell

Neighbors on the Ring app wondered about/were grossed out by a “strange smell” all over Memphis last week.

From Cordova, across Midtown, and into Downtown something smelled “like manure or something sulfuric.” Ring users blamed “mulch, just mulch”; maybe something they stepped in; Bradford pear trees in bloom; Memphis Light, Gas & Water activity; a sewage leak; a gas leak; a cat; and, to one neighbor, “Memphis tends to stink.”

For years, a Bigfoot statue welcomed Cooper-Young folks from stairs close to a sidewalk. Sassy wore seasonal costumes, like the University of Memphis jersey above.

Someone stole Sassy last Monday, Jennifer Jordan posted on Nextdoor. “Please keep an eye out!” she wrote.

Child Waxing

The MEMernet was aghast this weekend over a viral TikTok that allegedly showed “a minor performing a wax on a nude female,” according to Memphis Police Department (MPD).

According to Memphis Reddit users, the video showed a 7-year-old that performed 24 Brazilian waxes on women in one day at a local salon.

MPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was made aware of the images and an investigation is now underway. Police said, “DO NOT screen save or forward these images to law enforcement or anyone. Please do not download or upload these images in any way.”

File further complaints on the incident to The Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 or Cyber Tip Report.

Penny

A fake statement announcing Penny Hardaway’s split with the University of Memphis started circulating on X earlier this week. It came after a blowout loss to Southern Methodist University last Sunday that had a frustrated Penny ripping apart his players.

U.S. Supreme Court justices weighed whether or not former President Donald Trump could appear on Colorado’s ballot last week. During the session, Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn stood outside in bright pink, maybe hoping to catch Trump’s eye as he flipped channels.

Winter Storm Heather (Did anyone ever really call it that?) was forecast to be gone by press time.

It sucked IRL. But it made for a fun week on the MEMernet. I mean, just look at that beautiful photo above by Paul Burns from Facebook.

Kenon Walker, duckmaster at The Peabody Hotel, shared some cheery wholesomeness on TikTok, marching his charges through the snow.

Memphis Redditor B1gR1g measured the snow fall with, yep, a 40-ounce Cobra.

The Daily Memphian’s Abigail Warren reported on X that it looked “like about four inches in Collierville.” To this, the hilarious Memphis Light, Gas & Water parody account @MemphisMGLW replied, “four inches prolly big for Collierville.”

Memphis Police Department Chief CJ Davis did not win immediate support from the Memphis City Council to keep her job last week. But the final decision may come next week.

More than 77 percent of 106 voters in an X poll by council chairman JB Smiley Jr. last week said they did not want Davis as top cop anymore.

Damn Weather

Snow and cold temperatures were forecast for Memphis before press time. To prepare, The Damn Weather of Memphis asked Facebook friends about uniquely Memphis weather preparations.

One stocks a Yeti cooler with Tops food. Another showed a “full carb sellout” with empty bread shelves at the Germantown Kroger. Most suggested stocking up on alcohol, lots of alcohol.

Lion Tale

That urban myth about a Memphis Zoo lion used as the original MGM logo lion surfaced again in the Historic Memphis Facebook group last week. The myth has been denied by zoo officials at least as far back as the 1950s.
