On Easter 2012, aspiring Memphis rapper Samuel “Sam Bo” Wilkes Jr. was fatally shot in Southeast Memphis.

Delshun Jones, 29, has been convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the crime.

According to the Shelby County District Attorney General’s office, Wilkes, 25, and Jones got into an argument early Sunday, April 8th, 2012.

Later that evening, Jones reportedly drove up to where he saw Wilkes standing on Kathy Road and Merle Street and opened fire. The rapper was struck multiple times.

Around 6:30 p.m., Memphis police officers arrived on the scene and located Wilkes lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses testified in criminal court that they attempted to persuade Jones not to shoot Wilkes following their disagreement. Witnesses also testified that Jones bragged about the shooting afterwards.
