Mothersville Will Remain Open

“It’s been just about 40 weeks since I made the initial announcement about the uncertain future of Mothersville,” says Andria Cline, co-owner of the Cooper-Young establishment that she describes as a “community resource and retailer serving expectant and experienced parents.”

According to Cline, she was told, “over and over again” that Mothersville simply could not close. “I was overwhelmed by the reaction of our customers, from the play-group regulars to one-time buyers, who repeatedly told me how important the store had been during their own early mothering experiences.”

But Cline herself had recently given birth to a son, so what to do? Well, one of her new customers stepped forward and “offered her time, ideas, and resources to keep Mothersville going.” The new co-owner is Melissa Anderson Sweazy, a former Memphian and graduate of Rhodes College, who recently returned to the Bluff City after several years working as a writer in Los Angeles.

“Melissa brings a Southerner’s wit and charm curled up around a left coast artistic sensibility, and best of all, a deep and true desire to help out the new mamas of Memphis,” Cline says.
