Taste Test: Jolly Traveler Winter Shandy, etc.

So yesterday, we had a beer and cheese tasting because we’re sophisticated like that.

The good folks at the Traveler Beer Co. sent us samples of the its winter and pumpkin shandies.

I also picked up some Not Your Father’s Root Beer I’ve been hearing so much about.

And, finally, some cheese that was sent by Fromager d’Affinois.

We went straight for the root beer beer. “Whoa!” exclaimed one taster. We all agreed that this tastes exactly like root beer, which, ironically, became negative to many who couldn’t see drinking more than one of these at time. Too sweet was another complaint. I liked it.

As for the shandies, we had sampled the pumpkin shandy last year when did a pumpkin beer roundup. It was a favorite of the batch.

The winter shandy does indeed bring about flavors of winter with its orange and lemon notes and spices. The beer also has pomegranate, but I couldn’t really detect it. A good beer.

The cheese was sent as a promotion for its new petit line, “a perfect addition to a child’s lunch,” according to the press release.

For one thing, the cheese wasn’t all that small, and I think a child may rather have a Twinkie in his or her lunchbox than a creamy, spreadable brie.

That said, I wouldn’t mind at all having it in my lunchbox.
