A handful of local hip-hop artists are coming together to provide a holiday concert that will benefit underprivileged youth.
Santa Clause Presents: Hip Hop Toy Drive will take place at the Hi-Tone Friday, December 12th. The show starts at 8 p.m.
A diverse line-up of artists are slated to perform, including Iron Mic Coalition, S.O.U.L., Dick Solomon, Da Ladie, Ricache’, and Nina 9, and more.
Sleepy J. Barksdale, another spitter who will grace the stage, started the toy drive back in 2011. Since then, it’s blossomed into an annual gathering that helps lessen the amount of kids who don’t receive gifts during the holidays. The event also gives locals the chance to hear some of Memphis’ best up-and-coming talent.
“I love Christmas, so I thought it would be a cool idea to combine Christmas and my love for hip hop,” Barksdale said. “The show helps to ensure children are able to share the same memories and love for the holidays and hip-hop that I have.”
For admission to the event, people are requested to bring one new unwrapped toy. Those who don’t have a toy to donate will be required to pay $5. All money and toys collected will be donated to Toys for Tots.
