Russell Strauss of Memphis, the incoming president of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, and Sarah Hull Gurley of Germantown, who just succeeded Strauss as president of the Tennessee State Poetry Society, are among the luminaries taking part in the four-day annual convention of the NFSPS, which concludes Monday at the University of Memphis-area Holiday Inn on Central Avenue.
Sunday is “Tennessee Day” at the convention, which this year bears the title of “Heart of the South Convention” and has focused on the work of Federation members from the Mid-South area.
The convention has featured frequent readings, a book room where published volumes of Federation members from throughout the nation are on display and for sale, announcements of contest winners, and both formal and informal dinners.
More than a hundred members from at least 35 states have taken part in the proceedings, which has included a visit to Graceland and will conclude on Monday with an extended tour of Memphis.
