Throwback Thursday: William Bell’s “I Forgot to be Your Lover”

Decades ago, Stax Records served as the home for a multitude of talented singers and songwriters. William Bell was amid the label’s explosive roster.

The Memphis-bred sensation created numerous R&B/soul hits years ago that are still cherished today. A track that I enjoy from Bell is his soulful 1968 song “I Forgot to be Your Lover.”

An alternate version of the song featuring Snoop Dogg and the Stax Academy Band
was featured in the September documentary Take Me to the River. And over the years, the track has been sampled by the likes of Billy Idol, Ludacris, and Jaheim.

Stream “I Forgot to be Your Lover” below.
