Grizzlies fans, it’s Woj Bomb time: the Grizzlies and Magic have apparently agreed to a trade that will send 34-year-old point guard Luke Ridnour to the Grizzlies in exchange for the rights to Janis Timma.
Ridnour is set to make $2.75mm next season, but according to Basketball Reference, that second year is unguaranteed. Timma was the very last pick in the 2013 draft, and has been playing in the Latvian league, where he’s been doing stuff like this:
This trade, assuming the Grizzlies don’t just cut Ridnour since his salary is unguaranteed, puts five point guards on the Grizzlies’ roster as it stands: Mike Conley, Beno Udrih, Nick Calathes, Russ Smith, and Ridnour. One would assume that this state of affairs is not a permanent one, and that (1) future moves are probably going to happen and/or (2) Nick Calathes is probably not going to be back in a Grizzlies jersey next season.
More on this as it develops. In the meantime, farewell, sweet Janis.
