Sad news from the Memphis Zoo today. According to the AP, an ultrasound has confirmed what has been feared in recent weeks: that the giant panda Ya Ya is no longer pregnant.
Ya Ya was artificially inseminated in January.
From the story: “The miscarriage was caused by her low level of the hormone progesterone, and she was not harmed by the pregnancy, zoo president Chuck Brady said shortly after the ultrasound was completed.”
The zoo plans to help Ya Ya try again in January or February of next year.
