If you have a personal memory of being bullied in school or harassed by educators, the Tennessee Equality Project (TEP) wants you to share your story for a YouTube video project aimed at promoting safe schools throughout the state.
TEP members will record video messages over tea and treats at this Sunday’s Safe Schools Tea and Video Workshop. The tea party will be held at the Memphis Gay & Lesbian Community Center (892 S. Cooper) on January 15th from 2 to 4 p.m.
The event is a response to two bills aimed at Tennessee schools. The “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which would prevent any discussion of homosexuality in the classroom in kindergarten through the eighth grade, is back this session. And the another bill, dubbed the “License to Bully” bill, would make it okay for bullies to harass other students so long as the bullies claim their views are of a “religious, philosophical, or political” nature.
