This Christmas card is both cute and disgusting. In other words, it’s perfect.

The Tigers are expected to announce the hiring of Washington Redskins’ assistant coach Jerry Gray as their new head coach.
From ESPN:
Gray interviewed this week and was a finalist for the position along with LSU running backs coach Larry Porter.
The announcement, assuming there are no unforeseen developments, is not expected to come until after Memphis has played its final game under outgoing coach Tommy West.
The Tigers play their final game of the season at Tulsa on Friday.
The last time we suggested that Harold Ford Jr. was interested in the New York U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Hillary Clinton, it was when Clinton surrendered her seat to become Secretary of State. Sometime Memphian Ford denied any such hankering at the time, and Kirsten Gillibrand got the nod.
Now Politico.com is saying that Ford, at least a part-time New York resident these days, is hankering hard and heavy and may indeed run against Gillibrand, — presumably in the 2012 Democratic primary.
Here’s the Politico story: http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/1109/Ford_vs_Gillibrand.html
Mary Cashiola reports that the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center has gotten funding lined up for its Fairgrounds project. You can take a virtual tour of the Center here.
Don’t feel like sharing the dinner table with your homophobic folks? Or maybe you’re just too far away to justify a plane or car trip home. Either way, you can give thanks with the local LGBT community at two events on Thanksgiving Day.
The Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center is hosting a Thanksgiving potluck at the center (892 S. Cooper) from noon to 4 p.m. Turkey will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite holiday dishes to share.
Not sure how to turn on an oven? Mary’s Memphis has you covered. Backstreet’s sister bar at 405. Cleveland will host their annual Thanksgiving buffet at noon. Food is provided free of charge.
I heard word of this last week, but the Salvation Army has announced it has raised the $25 million needed to begin the Kroc Center.
The funds will enable the Kroc Center to receive more than $62 million from the Ray and Joan Kroc estate.
“With only a few outstanding pledges and giving requests to finalize, we have begun the process of receiving construction bids and expect to have a formal groundbreaking ceremony in the early spring,” said Stephen Carpenter, director of operations for the Kroc Center, was quoted in a release as saying.
The 100,000-square-foot facility will include a 300-seat performing arts and worship center, a basketball court, indoor and outdoor sports fields, a fitness center, an aquatics center, and an outdoor splash park.
Frank Murtaugh has a report on the Tigers’ victory over UCA.
Thirty-two point blowouts are confidence-builders in the world of college basketball, as long as you’re on the right side of the score. (On the wrong side, and they’re lucrative public spankings.) The Tigers’ dismantling of UCA tonight should help in a few areas.
Memphis hit 12 of 24 three-point shots, including three of five from sharpshooter Roburt Sallie, who had missed 13 of his first 14 long-distance attempts of the season. “I knew it would come,” he said after the game. “I got some lucky bounces today, and that may help me get out of [the slump]. I’m grateful.” Elliot Williams drained four treys and led the Tigers in scoring for the fourth straight game with 20 points. He also dished out eight assists with but a single turnover.
“We’re gaining confidence,” said center Pierre Henderson-Niles. “It just takes time. We’ve got to get on the same page. If we come together, and can stay together, we’re gonna be a helluva team to beat.” Henderson-Niles had the biggest smile of the night after making a free throw late in the second half (he’s three for eight for the season), but with a single rebound — to match his point total — the big senior’s impact could best be described as intangible.

Note: I’m on massive deadlines for a couple publications I edit, Germantown magazine and MBQ (Knowledge Bowl isn’t my only day job, you know), so this week’s recap’s going to be a little bit shorter — sweeter, I say — than usual and I’m also punting hard-core statistics for another week. I’ll make up for it word-count overload in a future post, I assure you.
The Game:
Like last week, we once again have an instance where the score was closer than it would’ve been because of missed bonus questions. I’m starting to think capitalizing on bonus questions is the most important facet of Knowledge Bowl victory. I’ll see what weighting statistics toward that hypothesis means for player ratings next week.
After round one, Hutchison was down by only 10, despite only getting 3 toss-ups correct versus 6 for Germantown. Round two saw the bonus-question-accuracy tilt in Germantown’s favor, as they got 5 of 7 bonuses correct in the second frame. Germantown entered the Lightning Round with a 65-point edge and played Hutchison to a draw in the third round to secure the victory.
